How To Control Your Anger

WHY PEOPLE GET ANGRY

There's no shortage of theories about why people get angry. My own view is that it happens for four main reasons:

1.To harm oneself. Being depressed often results in anger directed at oneself for feeling and being powerless, and represents a wish for self-destruction.

2.To achieve control. Whether arising from paralyzing fear or merely irritation that things are going differently than we want, anger is often used to intimidate in order to manipulate.

3.To feel powerful. If we feel small, getting others to feel smaller makes us feel in comparison big.

4.To fight injustice. Righteous indignation coming from a person's moral center, outrage at an inequity being committed against oneself or others.

Though anger is often considered a negative emotion that we should do our best to eliminate, the validity of this has always seemed to me to depend on why the anger arises in the first place and what's done with it. For example, anger has always seemed to me an appropriate response to injustice, one that does little harm to oneself psychologically and very well may even be beneficial in that it motivates action to rights wrongs. The goal, it seems to me, isn't to eliminate anger but to control it; not to suppress it but to create value with it. How, then, can anger be properly managed?

If you feel that you have a hard time of controlling your anger than know one thing: You Are Not Alone! All over the world, millions of men and women suffer from uncontrollable anger which seriously disrupts their lives and can cause them severe harm.

Anger Management and Your Health

It is a well known fact that excessive anger can lead to all sorts of health risks and diseases. Anger management is important to reduce the risk of the following conditions:

•High blood pressure, which is known as "The Silent Killer", can be caused by elevated stress and anger levels

•Stomach ulcers are also stress related and can cause excruciating pain

•Heart problems - dealing with your anger is important to reduce the risk of a wide range of heart problems, anything from palpitations to a heart attack

•Facial tics - This isn't a health hazard, but it can be quite embarrassing. Facial tics appear in times of stress and emotional overload

•Insomnia - Anger tends to keep your mind working overdrive and sleep at bay. Angry people often suffer from insomnia

•Strokes - Excessive anger can cause the outbreak of a stroke. This can cause death or paralysis

How Controlling Your Anger Will Improve Your Life

Once you learn to deal with your anger and overcome it, your life will improve in various ways:

Your Health:
It is a well known fact that anger can lead to all sorts of health risks including high blood pressure, heart diseases, ulcers, stomach problems, cancer, fatigue, and other issues. When you cure your anger, you will also improve your health.

Your Career
One of the fastest ways to lose your job or ruin your business connections is to lose control of your temper. Anger frightens people and alienates them. People who are rageaholics tend to make less money both as employees and as business owners. They also tend to get fired more often.

Your social life:
Let's make it simple: No one likes to be around someone who is constantly angry. Unless you learn to control your anger, you will be far more lonely than you should be.

Your family life:
One of the main causes divorce happen is due to uncontrollable rage by either the husband or wife. It's hard to live with someone who has excessive anger. One of the most tragic things is that often child custody is taken from the angry partner and give to his or her spouse.

As you can see, anger management isn't a luxury. It's something you have to do in order to get your life back on track.

Anger Management Tips

Here are some anger management tips which you can start doing today:

Write down what angers you
You need to carry a notebook with you at all times to write down what makes you angry. Later, as you go over what you've written, you'll be better able to identify and prevent more bouts of anger.

Count to 3
Often, our anger surprises us and simply erupts. Later we feel embarrassed. To keep your control, make a habit of counting to 3 before any anger eruption.

Learn To Breath
One way to calm yourself down is to take deep breaths before you explode in range. Make a habit to take deep breaths whenever you feel a rage attack coming on.
